The Process

The custom frame process is all about communication: detailed conversations about what you are looking for in a custom bicycle, how and where you’ll want to ride it, likes and dislikes about other bikes you’ve ridden, as well as aesthetics.

CONTACT

The first step is to reach out and let me know you are interested, ask me questions if you have any, I’ll ask you some general questions about what you are looking for, we can figure out if we are a good fit to work on a custom frame project together.

DEPOSIT

A $500 non-refundable deposit sets your place in the build queue and is applied to the frameset total. Let me know when you are ready to lock in a spot in the queue and I will send you an invoice for the deposit and we can get started. With a follow up message I will send a receipt for the deposit and let you know where you sit in the line up. I’ll keep you updated as your place in the queue moves to the front of the line.

FIT + DETAILS

With your spot in the build queue set, we will begin with the fit and details of your frame. If you are nearby to Portland we will meet here in the shop to talk about all of it, record your measurements and have you spend time on the adjustable fit-cycle, dialing in your frame specs.
If you aren’t in or near Portland we can do all of this over email, phone, or video calls, and figure out the best option for you to be measured and fitted for a frame. ( bonus points if you’ve already been measured and fitted and have all the numbers ready to go! )
I will have a number of questions for you regarding the frame’s details and your desires for it. I have a questionnaire I can share with you before hand, if you want to have time to give it some thought, or we can run through it together in our conversations.

DESIGN + APPROVAL

With all the numbers in hand, and a clear picture of your frame goals, I’ll make a detailed drawing and spec sheet of the frame with the final quote for your approval.
If you are ordering a complete bike I will also work up a detailed parts list and price quote based on our conversations.

BUILD + DELIVER

Once your turn in the build queue arrives, I’ll invoice you for 50% of the frameset total and your project will begin. I’ll keep you updated with regular emails or texts, along with image posts to instagram (you are of course welcome to check in at any time).

When the frameset is done and ready to head out for powder or paint, I’ll invoice you for the balance of the frameset total minus the initial deposit.

When we’re ready to get the parts ordered up i’ll invoice you for the full amount of the parts quote. We’ll aim for parts to be waiting here in the shop when the frameset gets back from paint.

When the frameset returns from paint I’ll complete all the finish work, install the parts package, and prep for delivery day here at the shop, or ship to you if you are outside of Oregon (shipping will be included in the frame set quote if that is required).
